Barring Portland trading CJ McCollum or Jusef Nurkic they will need to get creative and clever with their additions in hopes of taking the next step toward competing for a ring. That is why Young would make sense for them as a potential trade target.
He would slot in very well on their roster, specifically next to their dynamic scoring backcourt of Lillard and McCollum. The Trail Blazers don’t have a traditional facilitator and all of their guards are natural scorers more than anything else.
Bringing in a player like Young that can get guys good looks from the frontcourt would be a huge asset to their scorers. Instead of having someone like Carmelo Anthony, another scorer, on the court with those two guards, they could have the versatile and creative Young on the floor.
Not only would he help create great looks for the rest of their players at a much better rate than Melo, but he is also a big upgrade on the defensive end compared to the future Hall of Famer. The things Portland did not get out of Derrick Jones Jr. this past season would certainly be provided by Young.
The versatile veteran forward would be the perfect player for the Trail Blazers to target in a trade this offseason. It may be just what they need to get the most out of their already potent offense while also providing a boost on the defensive end of the floor.
