Jalen Brunson just proved that shot-making is one of, if not the most important, skills when it comes to winning a championship. The New York Knicks just won it all, and Brunson was Finals MVP. Caleb Wilson isn’t even on the Chicago Bulls yet, but he probably will be soon. And he already needs Josh Giddey to begin turning into Brunson.
As of now, Giddey is the leader of the Bulls. It’s him and Matas Buzelis. But once the Bulls take Wilson with the No. 4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, he’ll be the guy most are looking toward to be the franchise superstar. So, if Giddey is going to be a big part of the Bulls’ next winning team, he needs to study Brunson.
Because right now, Giddey isn’t a good enough shot-maker.
Caleb Wilson already needs Josh Giddey to study Jalen Brunson's shot-making
The Bulls aren’t exactly close to competing for a championship right now. But obviously, that’s where they want to get to. That’s what every team in the NBA is theoretically building toward.
And though it’s not official yet, it seems certain that Chicago will take UNC’s Wilson with the fourth overall pick on draft night. He’s the type of player who could help lead the Bulls to the promised land.
Once he gets to Chicago, Wilson will have to build. He’ll have to develop. And perhaps just as importantly, the Bulls will have to work to put great pieces around him.
But the Bulls already have a couple of big pieces in place. One is Matas Buzelis, who looks like a long-term piece. And the other is Giddey, whom Chicago already handed an extension.
Again, though, Wilson is projected to be the centerpiece if all goes according to plan. And in that case, before ever touching the hardwood for Chicago, he already needs Giddey to make some changes.
Look at what Brunson accomplished this season. He led his team to an NBA Championship with elite shot-making and offensive creation. That’s what he does. That’s what teams need.
Can the Bulls find that in other areas outside of Giddey? Perhaps. But Giddey is the point guard. He’s going to have the ball a lot. And right now, his biggest strengths are playmaking and driving.
Not shot-making.
If the Bulls see Giddey as one of the biggest supporting pieces alongside Wilson as he attempts to lead them into the future, he has to study Brunson. He has to become a better shot-maker.
