Grade the Trade: Bulls deal Zach LaVine to Knicks in blockbuster proposal

The Chicago Bulls have reportedly made Zach LaVine available on the trade market, but no deal is close. The 6’5 wing is an elite scorer that is no stranger to the rumors. Chicago set a massive asking price, and fans should not hold their breath that one gets done before training camp.
The Bulls re-signed Nikola Vucevic and added two talented role players to their roster this summer. Those are not signs of a team looking to trade away their best player. Yes, Chicago might be willing to trade LaVine for a too-good-to-be-true package, but that appears to be the only way.
That did not stop the Knicks from inquiring (subscription required), and they have the assets to offer a cannot refuse package. New York wants to add a star, but can they convince the Bulls to part with the 28-year-old? It won’t be easy.

LaVine is a two-time All-Star, but the Bulls have made the playoffs just once in his six years in Chicago. He produces outstanding numbers and is one of the league’s best scorers. It has not translated to wins, and the Bulls are not on the verge of contention. LaVine still has three years plus a player option remaining on his contract. Is it time for Chicago to move on?
The Bulls will run it back and take another crack at contending, but a slow start could change the team’s tune. Lonzo Ball is out for the season, and the franchise just does not have enough to make a deep playoff run.
With LaVine locked up long-term, they are only trading him for a massive haul. The Knicks are hungry to add a star and have interest in the two-time All-Star. Will they make a massive offer to get the 6’5 wing?
