Knicks possible trade targets to watch for the Chicago Bulls: Dwayne Bacon

The theme of floor spacing holds true here for a potential trade target from the Knicks to add to the roster next season for Donovan and the Bulls. The recently signed former Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic sharpshooting guard Dwayne Bacon was one of the better shooters from deep a few seasons ago among reserve guards around the NBA.

And given how important floor spacers and off-ball movement are for Donovan’s offensive scheme to really thrive at peak efficiency, adding someone like Bacon to the bench makes a lot of sense. Bacon did see a dip in his three-point shooting percentage last season, down below 30. So he’s got a long way to go to get back to being one of the better shooters from three around the league.

It seems like the mistake that teams keep making with Bacon is using him as a threat to shoot from the left corner from three-point range. That is a mistake because Bacon was anything but a threat from the corners in the last two seasons. He actually shot well below 20 percent from the corners since the end of the 2018-19 season.

Bacon actually has shot better than 40 percent from beyond the arc from the right side in the last two seasons. Whether that’s a coincidence is yet to be seen. But that is still a trend that teams should be picking up on. Bacon can also be a decent shooter from above the break, shooting around 35 percent from that spot beyond the arc in his career.

Bacon is the type of offensive player that thrives as an initiator. And if he’s not going to have the ball in his hands, then he could be one of the more active players off-ball. Bacon is not great in catch-and-shoot scenarios. He could add to that movement piece that is so important to Donovan’s offense when he’s playing off-ball.
