Who the Chicago Bulls could add that are solid fits with Nikola Vucevic: JaMychal Green

One of the potentially realistic free agent signings for the Bulls this summer could be the Denver Nuggets big man JaMychal Green. If he doesn’t opt in to the final year of his current contract this offseason, then Green will become an unrestricted free agent. Green was solid for the Nuggets during the regular season, although the team sputtered out earlier than expected in the playoffs.

The Nuggets did see Green become one of the key pieces of the supporting cast around the eventual NBA MVP and superstar big man Nikola Jokic. Given some of the similarities in the games of Jokic and Vooch, that could be something that executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley try to recreate to some degree.

Obviously, Vooch is not going to become Jokic overnight. But getting that type of support piece like Green that can do a little bit of everything could be very effective to help round out this starting unit.

During the 2020-21 regular season, Green averaged 8.1 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.4 blocks. And he shot 46.3 percent from the field, 39.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Green is a decent defender and rebounder that can help to space the floor around Vooch and take some of the defensive pressure off of his shoulders. And if the Bulls wouldn’t want to give Green a spot in the starting unit, then he could be one of the most effective pieces coming off the bench in the frontcourt.
