Chicago Bulls: 3 things that must be addressed in free agency
Chicago Bulls Free Agency Needs: Defensive minded wings
Don’t misinterpret this need as a knock on Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams, who just finished his solid but not spectacular debut season in the NBA. He is a massive part of the future of this team and a player that will help as he continues developing.
That being said, the Bulls want to win games and win games now. They need more defensive-minded players on their roster if they are going to do so. Williams can’t be asked to be one of the only legitimate perimeter defenders on a good team at this point in his career. It simply isn’t fair or smart to ask that of him.
Garrett Temple is a good defender and wants to come back next season, but it wouldn’t hurt the Bulls to go with younger options that contribute more in general than the veteran wing. Williams will remain the starting three but the Bulls need versatility off the bench behind him given where he is with his game.
With Vooch manning the middle for the Bulls and LaVine an obvious lock in the starting unit as well, the Bulls are best suited having as many strong defenders on their roster as possible. The need for these types of defenders is already huge, failing to address the need for rim protection that we discussed earlier would make the need even more important.
This is all about making the Chicago Bulls a better team right now and in the coming seasons. They don’t need to add much to be a good offensive team thanks to the two offensive talents they are led by in LaVine and Vooch.
Add in the scoring of Coby White and offense really isn’t an area of focus at all. Instead, they need help defensively where they will continue to cost themselves games by not getting stops as currently constructed.
