Chicago Bulls Former Players Competing for a Championship: Bobby Portis, Milwaukee Bucks

Although Portis concluded his time with the Bulls in the oddest of fashions, he has since bounced back and could be on his way to earning a significant raise after the season he is having with the Milwaukee Bucks.

When he first signed in Milwaukee this previous offseason it seemed like a great value deal for the team. That is why Portis has a player option for next season.

The player option could go either way but as of right now it is hard to imagine the 26-year-old big man won’t be worth more than the less than $4 million he is set to earn if he accepts the option for next year.

Portis was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the 2015 NBA Draft as the 22nd overall selection. Over the course of four seasons in Chicago, he averaged 9.7 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game.

His best year with the Bulls came in his final season with the team, the same year that he was dealt in an in-season trade to the Washington Wizards. Before the trade, he was scoring 14.1 points per game and grabbing 7.3 rebounds.

After the much-needed change of scenery, Portis played for the already mentioned Wizards before spending a year with the Knicks. That brings us to the current season where he is a member of the Bucks and could be huge in how much playoff success the team has.

He is averaging 11.5 points and 7 rebounds per game this year. Most impressive and vital to the Bucks is his very improved outside shooting. He is connecting on 48.6 percent of his perimeter shots, a significant improvement from last season, and easily on pace to be a new career-high.
