Chicago Bulls Rotation Adjustment: Al-Farouq Aminu enters the rotation

Aminu joined the Bulls in the Nikola Vucevic trade that saw Otto Porter Jr. and Wendell Carter Jr. go to the Magic with a couple of protected draft picks. It was all about salary matching but the Magic were surely very happy to also move on from him.

More so because of their new direction than anything else. The veteran had no reason to be there and now that he is on a Bulls team that struggles defensively he may have wound up in the perfect spot to make a contribution.

Aminu has and will struggle offensively. As mentioned in the previous slide, this is all about the defensive side of the ball. Chicago needs so much on that end that Aminu would become an on-floor asset instantly.

Long known for his defensive ability, Aminu could play any minutes Valentine would get plus a number of minutes from guys depending on game flow. How perfect of a fit would it be to slide Aminu into some of Markkanen’s minutes if the sharpshooting big man isn’t playing aggressively in any given game?

That is what really pushes this idea over the top for me. Markkanen can’t remain aggressive over a multiple-game stretch lately and if he isn’t taking and making shots, what is he really doing for the Bulls? Those times he is asserting himself and forces his way onto the court it won’t be an issue.

Not only would Aminu help get some productive defenders on the court where the Bulls lack them in Markkanen, but there could also be minutes available at the other wing spot.
