At long last, the speculation is finally over. The countless rumors, reports, and questions surrounding Josh Giddey's future have come to an end after five long months.

The Chicago Bulls took a decisive step toward building for the future, signing Giddey to a four-year, $100 million contract extension. The deal not only secures one of the league’s most promising young guards but also sends a message throughout the league. The Bulls are committed to investing in a young core with the opportunity to grow alongside one another for years to come.

A young guard built for Chicago

Since arriving in Chicago via trade during the 2024 offseason, Giddey has proven himself as a big guard with the vision and versatility necessary to lead this team going forward. At just 22 years old, his abilities give the Bulls a uniquely skilled floor general who can significantly impact the game without needing to score 25 points on a nightly basis.

In his first season with Chicago, Giddey averaged a well-rounded 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game while also making a significant leap in his three-point shooting percentage. That progress has made him the clear point guard of the future, a role the Bulls are ready to build around. At $25 million annually, this contract has the perfect balance of being both team-friendly and player-friendly, especially given his age entering the 2025–26 season.

The future is looking brighter than ever

Giddey’s extension fits seamlessly with Chicago’s shift toward young players with NBA experience. The Bulls acquired Isaac Okoro from the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this offseason, gave rookie Matas Buzelis a much bigger role later last season, and now have Giddey locked in through 2029.

Following this signing, the Bulls roster is now stacked with 13 players aged 25 or younger. A foundation this young gives Chicago not only a chance to grow together but also time to develop chemistry and forge an identity built on unity rather than signing veterans to patch up past roster errors.

Additionally, the financial element of this contract is just as important. With the NBA salary cap rising each season, Giddey’s deal will most certainly look like a bargain by 2027–28 if he continues on his current upwards trajectory. The Bulls secured their point guard of the future while still maintaining flexibility to pursue another star down the line. Owning all future first-round picks only strengthens that position.

Ultimately, Josh Giddey’s extension proves that the Bulls are done chasing quick fixes. Instead, they are now betting on long-term development and the opportunity to grow together.
