Cameron Boozer could be Bulls' quiet trade option if Ja Morant comes with him

The Chicago Bulls should ask the Memphis Grizzlies to take on Ja Morant's contract in a trade-up deal for Cameron Boozer in the NBA Draft.

The Chicago Bulls have the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The Memphis Grizzlies sit at pick No. 3. It may not be likely, but the Bulls should inquire about the (unlikely) chance of trading up to pick three to select Cameron Boozer, taking on Ja Morant’s contract in return. Obviously, more assets would go to Memphis, but it could be an intriguing idea.

Boozer has seemingly become underrated throughout the draft scouting process. He projects to be an elite big man defender, capable of switching, and a very smart offensive talent. Caleb Wilson, the Bulls’ likely pick at No. 4, is great, but Boozer is a cut above.

If Memphis is interested, Chicago should definitely try to get a deal done.

Bulls should try to trade up for Cameron Boozer (and they could take on Ja Morant's contract)

The Grizzlies may look to trade Morant this summer. It seems as though his time in Memphis is coming to a close, as the Grizzlies have already traded Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr.

Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, with Morant’s injury history and lengthy list of off-court issues, teams around the NBA may not be too interested in taking on his contract.

But the Bulls aren’t exactly in a spot to compete for anything right now. So, if they could take Morant’s money in the deal, perhaps the Grizzlies would be willing to trade back a pick.

Wilson is still a great player. And with Zach Edey at the center, he may even be a more intriguing fit for the Grizzlies, though he’s not the same level of talent as Boozer projects to be.

Would the Grizzlies be interested in trading No. 3 and Morant to the Bulls for No. 4 and maybe a future first-round pick? They would clear Morant’s money off the books and still get a future asset.

Meanwhile, Chicago would land a player who could be a face of the franchise. Boozer has the potential to be one of the best players in the NBA.

He’s an awesome defender, and he looks like the type of guy who could act as the connecting piece of an entire offense. That type of playmaking and scoring versatility would be incredible for Chicago.

Boozer is good enough for the Bulls to trade up for. He’s good enough for them to be willing to take on Morant’s contract for (a guy who would also bring some star power to the city).

A trade up one spot could be well worth it for the Bulls, but it would require the Grizzlies playing ball.
