Bulls could have new trade plan if Jaylen Brown turns into Aaron Gordon

If the Boston Celtics trade Jaylen Brown to the Denver Nuggets, the Chicago Bulls should try to get Cameron Johnson.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, a bunch of new teams have entered the mix for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. The Denver Nuggets are one of them. And if the Celtics bring back Aaron Gordon in the trade, it means they would probably also be adding Cameron Johnson. That’s a guy the Chicago Bulls could trade for.

Gordon would fit nicely in Boston, but they could look to move on from Johnson’s expiring salary. It would give them a bit more flexibility to add another position of need. And since the Bulls have cap space, they could take on Johnson’s expiring deal and try to flip him at the trade deadline next year.

Chicago should stay vigilant when it comes to adding potential talent this summer.

Bulls should get in on a Jaylen Brown-Nuggets trade

The Brown sweepstakes seems to be heating up. A lot of different teams are interested in bringing him on board in the post-Giannis Antetokounmpo trade world (the deal the Celtics originally wanted to make).

Now, they have been forced to pivot and explore other ideas for Brown trades. And the Nuggets are one of the teams reportedly showing an interest in striking a deal.

Jamal Murray’s contract is massive, so a deal would likely consist of Gordon, Johnson, and other pieces (along with draft capital), creating a new Big 3 on the Nuggets.

Nikola Jokic, Brown, and Murray would attempt to overthrow the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder in the West, while the Celtics would be left with depth and draft picks.

But again, if they didn’t want to keep hold of Johnson, they could look to unload him for either draft capital or a different piece. That’s where the Bulls should enter the equation.

Since Chicago will have some significant cap space to work with this summer – even after adding Nicolas Claxton in the Julius Randle trade – Johnson could be an interesting target for them.

The Bulls will already have some solid depth at the forward position, but Johnson could be a good mentor for guys like Caleb Wilson and Matas Buzelis.

Plus, since he’s on an expiring contract next season, the Bulls could always potentially look to flip him at the deadline. He could have some value, especially if he played well in Chicago.

So, if Brown does end up getting flipped for a Brown-led package, the Bulls should look to get in on the action and add Johnson.
