Bulls need to learn Josh Giddey lesson from LaMelo Ball and Jaylen Brown

The Chicago Bulls should consider a Josh Giddey trade this summer.

The Chicago Bulls have a chance to set themselves up for the future this summer, and trading Josh Giddey could be a smart pathway forward. The Charlotte Hornets traded LaMelo Ball, and the Boston Celtics are on the brink of trading Jaylen Brown. Even when a guy is a team’s best player – or one of them – trading them could still make sense.

That’s what the Bulls need to figure out with Giddey. Right now, as things stand, Giddey is one of the best players on the Bulls. He has been for the last year or so. But if the Bulls want to put themselves in the best possible position to build around Caleb Wilson and Matas Buzelis, flipping Giddey for assets would make sense.

Go younger, and capitalize on any value Giddey might have right now.

Bulls should consider Josh Giddey trade

The Hornets enjoyed a great end to the season this past year. In the second half of the year, they were one of the best teams in the NBA, and Ball was a big part of that.

Ball, Kon Knueppel, and the rest of the Hornets did a great job playing out Charles Lee’s vision on the court, and on the offensive end, in particular, the Hornets were dominant.

Yet Charlotte decided to sell high. In one of the first trades of the summer, the Hornets sent Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves to go play with Anthony Edwards, restructuring their roster.

The Hornets decided that, even though Ball is a talented player, it would be smarter for them to reshape the way their team looks around Knueppel. And that might be what the Celtics are doing, too.

After failing to land Giannis Antetokounmpo – with The Greek Freak ending up with the Miami Heat – the Celtics are now seeking out potential Brown trades.

Any trade that sends Brown elsewhere will significantly shake up the entire Celtics roster. And based on the sheer quantity of trade rumors, it seems likely that Boston is comfortable doing just that.

So, why shouldn’t the Bulls consider doing the same? They aren’t rebuilding around someone like Knueppel or Jayson Tatum like the Hornets and Celtics are, but they have Wilson and Buzelis.

Trading Giddey for draft capital and other young assets could be a great idea for the Bulls. If they decided to shake things up in the right way, it could seriously help the team moving forward. At the very least, the Bulls should consider it.
