The Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks have a deep rivalry that dates back to the 1970s and was reignited after Grayson Allen pulled a Mortal Combat move on Alex Caruso earlier this year, fracturing Caruso’s wrist in the process.
The Bucks swept the Bulls in the regular season despite the theatrics and took Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round matchup on Sunday.
The game appeared to be a lopsided affair early on, as the Bucks hopped out to a quick 15-point lead. Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic and Coby White were able to pull the Bulls back into the game, taking a one-point lead in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Bulls’ big three combine for 2-of-19 from the field. The team’s defense tried to make up for their lack of scoring, Caruso putting on a defensive clinic down the stretch. Despite their efforts, Milwaukee battled back and ended up with the win, 93-86.
To add insult to injury, the Bucks social media team was back at it again with the Twitter antics. This time, they used Bulls’ legend Michael Jordan’s hit movie “Space Jam” for a play on words to highlight a Giannis Antetokounmpo dunk early in the game when the Greek Freak was destroying Chicago.
The Bucks trolled the Bulls with a ‘Space Jam’ reference during Game 1
One thing about MJ fans is that they do not play about anything concerning Michael Jeffry Jordan — whether it’s his GOAT status, baseball career, or even his movie. They clowned LeBron James’ remake of Space Jam and even took the time to write Twitter threads about the difference between the two as actors and how it shows MJ is better as a player.
While MJ fans aren’t going to be too pleased with the post, this isn’t the first time the Bucks’ social media team went at the Bulls on Twitter. Following the Allen’s foul on Caruso in January, they posted a video of Allen eating a donut with the caption, “Good morning.”
Once the Bulls revealed that Caruso fractured his wrist, Milwaukee deleted the post. Fans and media members, however, have their screenshots and won’t let the Bucks official Twitter page live the post down.
Either way, Twitter means nothing in regard to the series. The Bulls will have to find a way manufacture points for their star players. If not, the Bucks social media team will have a lot more to say as the series goes on. Maybe this will awaken the ghost of MJ and help Chicago find that “it” factor.
