Bulls Rumors: Paul Millsap would prefer to land in Chicago
Amid one of the more prominent Bulls rumors that could have an impact on how the trade deadline plays out for Chicago involves the veteran Brooklyn Nets power forward Paul Millsap. This 36-year-old four-time All-Star is having a rough season with head coach Steve Nash and the Nets thus far.
Since Millsap had some troubles so far this season with the Nets, it looks like their front office is willing to find him a new home at the trade deadline if there is a suitable landing spot. If the Nets do decide to part ways with Millsap at the trade deadline, the Bulls are definitely one of the potential landing spots.
According to a report from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report last week, the Bulls are actually the preferred landing spot for Millsap. That sentiment was reiterated since that point.
Given that, Millsap is definitely one of the more realistic trade deadline targets to note for the Bulls. If the front office is only trying to make some minor adjustments to upgrade the rotation as a whole, then adding Millsap seems like a move that makes sense for all parties involved.
The Bulls are definitely seeking help at the four. And adding a veteran voice to the locker room that could provide value in the second or third unit off the bench still helps. Adding Millsap really doesn’t look like it will move the needle all that much as it pertains to the Bulls’ contender status in the Eastern Conference heading into the postseason.
Bulls rumors indicating Chicago could still be a preferred landing spot for Paul Millsap
All in all, the likelihood that the Bulls go after Millsap could hinge on the overall strategy that the front office is looking to go into the trade deadline with. If the Bulls are laser-focused on getting someone like Detroit Pistons star forward Jerami Grant or Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes to Chicago at the deadline, landing Millsap could fall under the radar on Feb. 10.
Yet, if the Bulls just want to make minor tweaks to the rotation, nabbing pieces like Boston Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder and Millsap could be the priorities. There could also be other moves the Bulls are planning under the radar if that is the case.
Millsap is only due around $2.5 million in base salary as this is the only year of his current contract. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent again this coming offseason. Thus, he would potentially just be like a one-year rental veteran reserve for the Bulls.
