Bulls Rumors: Chicago made an offer to Celtics for Dennis Schroder
At this point, it just looks like a fact of life that Bulls rumors are circulating around the Boston Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder with the trade deadline approaching fast on Feb. 10. A lot of Bulls fans likely don’t want to hear that the front office is going after Schroder at the deadline if other options are available. But it is still interesting to see how this situation could play out at the deadline.
The rumors really first started circulating last week concerning the Bulls and Schroder from the Celtics. It sounds like there is interest from executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley in potentially getting a deal done with the Celtics at the deadline to get help in the backcourt unit with Schroder.
Moreover, it feels like the more time goes along, the more serious the rumors sound for the Bulls going after Schroder. According to a report from The Action Network on Feb. 6, the Bulls are one of a couple of teams that were already in contact with the Celtics’ front office to make a trade offer for Schroder. The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly the other team that has already made an offer for Schroder.
Here’s more on what this piece from The Action Network had to say about the Bulls’ pursuit of Schroder with the trade deadline approaching fast.
"The Boston Celtics’ priority, according to multiple sources, is to clear salary to save on the luxury tax. There are two offers on the table for Dennis Schröder according to multiple sources, one from the Milwaukee Bucks and another from the Chicago Bulls"
It looks like the Celtics are trying to clear out as much salary as they can down the stretch this season to avoid the luxury tax. This piece also mentioned the idea of the Celtics parting ways with defensive standout point guard Marcus Smart. But it doesn’t sound too likely that anything will get done concerning the Celtics parting ways with Smart this season.
If it is the Bulls and Bucks that are the only two teams in the running to potentially nab Schroder from the Celtics at the deadline, that is an interesting development. The Bulls and Bucks are currently two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. And they have multiple matchups before the conclusion of this regular season slate.
Given injuries to key guards such as Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball, it looks like Karnisovas and the Bulls could be prioritizing adding backcourt depth at the trade deadline this year. Schroder also has the connection with second-year Bulls head coach Billy Donovan dating back to their two seasons together with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
