3 young players that are standing out as the Bulls struggle
Young Chicago Bulls players standing out of late: Ayo Dosunmu
By far the two most valuable young guards for the Bulls in the last few weeks, Coby and rookie former Illinois point guard Ayo Dosunmu have made waves for this team in a bright spotlight. And while Coby heating up as he has of late is something that was not out of the question a couple of months ago, Ayo playing the way he has recently is more of a surprise.
Dosunmu was the 38th overall pick for the Bulls in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft. So far during his rookie campaign, Dosunmu has exceeded almost every expectation the coaching staff and front office could have of him.
Making history in the Bulls’ loss to the Celtics on Jan. 15, Dosunmu became the first rookie ever in the NBA to put up at least 20 points and 10 assists in a game while shooting at least 90 percent from the field and 70 percent from beyond the arc.
He also was placed in rare company when he had a game against the Washington Wizards back on Jan. 6 where he registered 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, no blocks, and just one turnover while shooting 78 percent from the field and 75 percent from beyond the arc.
Two of the best games of the season so far for Dosunmu came in the last few weeks. And this could be a sign of what’s to come for Ayo as this special rookie campaign for the former Fighting Illini star moves along.
Dosunmu is giving the Bulls some meaningful contributions at a higher level than really anyone expected out of him heading into his rookie season. It is a conversation between Dosunmu and rookie New Orleans Pelicans center Herbert Jones as to who is the best second-round pick in the NBA out of this rookie class so far this season.
