In a win over the Houston Rockets to even up the season series on the night of Dec. 20, second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls did lose another key player to injury. Donovan and the Bulls saw the defensive standout point guard Alex Caruso exit the game against the Rockets due to a foot injury at home at the United Center on Dec. 20.

The Bulls are already missing a plethora of other players due to various other injury issues and the league’s health and safety protocol. Granted, the Bulls do have some time off now since their Dec. 22 meeting at home at the United Center with the Toronto Raptors was postponed. The next game up now for the Bulls is set to come on Dec. 26 against the Indiana Pacers at home.

It will be interesting to see, though, if the Bulls are able to get Caruso back before the turn of the calendar year. According to a report from Rob Schaefer of NBC Sports Chicago on Twitter on Dec. 22, the Bulls are likely going to miss Caruso for more than one week due to the foot injury he suffered against the Rockets on Dec. 20.

Chicago Bulls will reportedly be missing Alex Caruso for at least 7-10 days with a foot injury

It is apparently a sprained left foot that Caruso actually suffered in the win over the Rockets a few days back.

Caruso will now reportedly be “re-evaluated in 7-10 days” after he sprained his foot. At the earliest, that will put Caruso back for the Bulls for a Dec. 29 matchup against the Atlanta Hawks.

At a minimum, it looks like Caruso will miss the next two games for the Bulls. That will hurt a lot depending on what happens with the likes of star shooting guard Zach LaVine, forward Derrick Jones Jr., and rookie point guard Ayo Dosunmu.

Caruso might be the most important player mostly coming off the bench so far this season for Donovan and the Bulls. The Bulls actually have their most efficient five-man combination this season when Caruso is out on the floor in place of shooting guard/forward Javonte Green with the rest of the starters.

The three best new signings for the Bulls so far this season have definitely proved to be star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan, point guard Lonzo Ball, and Caruso. Each of these three has the Bulls in a position to be one of the top postseason contenders out of the Eastern Conference this season.

Caruso has now played in 26 of the 29 games for the Bulls this season. He has proved to be one of the top perimeter defenders in the league this season. Through the more than two-dozen games he’s played in this season, he’s averaged around eight points per game, four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and 0.5 blocks.

Following their Dec. 20 win over the Rockets at the United Center, the Bulls are now sporting a record of 19-10. The Bulls will be seeking their 20th win of the season out of Christmas break on Dec. 26 against the Pacers.
