Big, and detrimental, news came the way of second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls ahead of tip-off against superstar big man Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets at home at the United Center on the night of Dec. 6. Donovan and the Bulls are set to miss star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan in this meeting with the Nuggets early this week.

The reason why DeRozan is set to miss time for the Bulls is the same as why the likes of shooting guard/forward Javonte Green and point guard Coby White are out this week, COVID-19 cases. The league’s health and safety protocol will consume a good portion of this Bulls’ rotation for potentially the next week at least.

This is obviously a tremendously important bit of news to drop for the Bulls ahead of a meeting with one of the tougher teams out of the Western Conference. It also doesn’t help that the Bulls are also set to miss point guard Alex Caruso against the Nuggets on this night.

Chicago Bulls now missing DeMar DeRozan vs. Nuggets on Dec. 6

It was just a couple of hours ahead of tip-off between the Bulls and Nuggets that the injury report came down showing that DeRozan will miss this game due to the league’s health and safety protocol.

DeRozan was big for the Bulls during this three-game winning streak. He’s registered at least 28 points in every single outing for the Bulls during this winning streak. For those efforts, DeRozan was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

The pregame spread also moved pretty firmly in favor of the Nuggets after the DeRozan news came down. The Bulls were around a four-point favorite on the morning of Dec. 6. That has now shrunk from three points down to even two points just ahead of tip-off on this night.

The Bulls are set to come into this meeting with the Nuggets without DeRozan sporting a record of 16-8 following a nice four-point win on the road on Dec. 4 over the Brooklyn Nets. Tip-off time between the Bulls and Nuggets is set for 7 p.m. CT on Dec. 6 at the United Center.
