Free agents the Chicago Bulls could add after Patrick Williams’ injury: James Ennis III

In the weeks leading up to the start of Training Camp for the Bulls, we’ve talked a lot about the possibility of the Bulls adding more wing shooting and another veteran presence in the locker room by signing the former Orlando Magic shooting guard/forward James Ennis III. The 31-year-old California native Ennis played really well in his role for the Magic last season.

Ennis was one of the best wing shooters in the NBA last season. He shot better than 47 percent from the field and north of 43 percent from beyond the arc with the Magic last season. He could bring that type of floor-spacing to the table playing at the three for the Bulls heading into next season if Karnisovas and Eversley scoop him up in the next few weeks.

What would work out well for all parties involved here if the Bulls signed Ennis is that he would be more of a permanent key addition to this rotation. While Scott would be a temporary fix in all likelihood if the Bulls did sign him ahead of the start of the regular season, Ennis could be a valuable floor-spacer on the wing that could be a part of the Bulls for at least a season or two.

Ennis definitely is the same caliber of defender as Williams. But he actually is a more confident shooter and offensive initiator that hasn’t shown the same capability of making untimely turnovers and indecisive shot selection as Williams. Ennis could be a nice addition to help balance out this rotation, regardless of the Williams injury, for Donovan and the Bulls next season.
