Chicago Bulls: 3 hidden gem free agents to sign before camp
Chicago Bulls potential hidden gem free agent targets: Amir Coffey
Likely the most well-known name on this list, the former Los Angeles Clippers lengthy 6-foot-7 and 210-pound shooting guard Amir Coffey is a player that the Bulls could get a good amount of value out of. It’s pretty surprising that no one has added Coffey in at least a non-guaranteed deal entering next season.
He played well at times for the Clippers in minutes in more than 60 regular season games since dating back to the 2019-20 campaign.
Coffey also showed a lot of growth in certain areas of his game last season. He shot better than 41 percent from beyond the arc on more than five attempts per 36 minutes. Coffey also rebounded the ball a little bit better, and was more effective at getting to the free-throw line.
Although he wouldn’t be a high-volume shooter for head coach Billy Donovan and the Bulls heading into next season, Coffey could be a unique two-guard/wing that could fill the last remaining two-way contract slot. Coffey was in one of the Clippers’ two-way contract slots last season.
The Bulls don’t currently have someone of Coffey’s length and outside shooting ability that he put on display last season. That could be a good player to have at the two or three to fill a third unit role. He is definitely a more reliable shooter from deep than someone like Troy Brown Jr. or Derrick Jones Jr.
