Chicago Bulls potential hidden gem free agent targets: Devontae Cacok
A potential free agent target of the Bulls, if the front office wants to dig pretty deep in the open market at this point the offseason, is the former Los Angeles Lakers and UNC-Wilmington power forward/center Devontae Cacok. Another former undrafted free agent and big man that could still offer a lot of value to the Bulls if given another shot, Cacok is a name worth watching.
If a team like the Bulls doesn’t sign Cacok ahead of the start of Training Camp and the preseason, then some team will during the regular season. He showed too much progression on both ends of the floor and is too efficient not to find a role somewhere when a team needs to add depth in the frontcourt unit as the coming regular season moves along.
In the last two seasons with the Lakers, Cacok played in just north of five minutes per game over the course of 21 regular season games. And he averaged around 15 points per 36 minutes, 13 rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block. He doesn’t have much of an ability to space the floor, but he can rebound and defend with a good amount of effectiveness.
Cacok also played well for the South Bay Lakers in the G-League during the 2019-20 season, averaging just shy of 20 points per game and a dozen rebounds.
The Bulls do have some solid rebounders and developing rim protectors on the roster, but Cacok can do so in more of a switchable role between the four and the five compared to someone like Alize or Tony Bradley.
