Remaining PF’s for the Chicago Bulls to sign: Nicolo Melli

A potential contingency for the Bulls at the four this offseason could be signing the former Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans power forward Nicolo Melli. Although Melli hasn’t proven himself on a consistent basis of being capable to maintain a consistent reserve role with a contender at the four, he could still be serviceable for the Bulls.

There are other options that the Bulls could consider as a tertiary candidate to sign to fill this need at the four. And it’s hard to find one that is clearly better than Melli. Other potential options here could be the former Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets 25-year-old big man DJ Wilson or the ex-Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons forward Tyler Cook.

But Melli falls into a similar bucket as those two other serviceable power forwards in the sense that he could be a low-risk, medium-reward type of free agent signing. Melli does have a good fundamental shooting stroke, is switchable enough to play at the four or the five, and he has decent court vision compared to other options the Bulls have at this point of the offseason at the four.

Another good reason to give serious consideration to Melli is that he was putting up some of the best numbers of his career down the stretch last season with the Mavs. He at least got to see action in a trio of playoff games with the Mavs last season too.

Melli wouldn’t be the most appealing free agent signing ever for the Bulls, but he looks to be one as good as either Wilson or Cook.
