The additions that were made for this team so far this offseason in Chicago came mostly shy of what we’ve heard from various Bulls rumors. Granted, all that executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley really had to build through this summer was the 2021 NBA Draft.
This cycle of free agency doesn’t even have the negotiation window opening up until Aug. 2. But with roughly 48 hours until the beginning of the negotiation window in free agency this summer, the Bulls’ front office is gearing up to potentially make some of what’s on the rumor mill right now a reality.
One area of need for the Bulls that received a lot of focus ahead of the start of free agency is in the backcourt. Namely, at the point guard position, Karnisovas and the Bulls have a lot of options to explore to help round out the starting unit ahead of next season.
According to a report from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report on July 31, the Bulls could have a new guard target in their sights. Milwaukee Bucks sharpshooting guard and reigning NBA Champion Bryn Forbes could be a name to watch for the Bulls in free agency this summer.
Forbes had a looming player option he could exercise to at least spend one more year with the Bucks. But he opted to part ways with the Bucks this summer, hence he will be an unrestricted free agent next week.
Bulls rumors hinting at Bryn Forbes as an option in Chicago this summer
Due to make around $2.5 million if he exercised his player option with the Bucks this summer for next season, it makes sense that Forbes wants to become a free agent yet again. His value on his next contract will likely be much higher than that.
Moreover, this BR report mentioned that the Brooklyn Nets would likely be the “leading candidate” to sign Forbes this summer. But the Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, and New Orleans Pelicans were all noted as other suitors to go after him.
Forbes would definitely help the Bulls with more guard depth for head coach Billy Donovan heading into next season. He was one of the most consistent shooters from deep last season, and he’s a decent defensive guard on ball.
Shooting better than 45 percent from beyond the arc during the regular season, Forbes is definitely one of the best sharpshooters available in free agency this summer.
The Bulls already had a good night for the 2021 NBA Draft back on July 29. Karnisovas and the Bulls added the former Illinois Fighting Illini star junior point guard Ayo Dosunmu with the 38th overall pick in the second round. And then the Bulls signed former Oregon State Beavers standout senior guard Ethan Thompson as an undrafted free agent.
