Deep sleepers the Chicago Bulls could sign in free agency: Cassius Winston

There is an opportunity for the Bulls to see one former Michigan State Spartans guard leave this summer, and then one return in the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft Cassius Winston. The Bulls could wind up letting go of the former Michigan State shooting guard/wing Valentine this summer if they don’t re-sign him for the second straight offseason.

Winston is a 23-year-old Michigan native that just got done with his rookie campaign with the Washington Wizards. He could be yet another addition among the guards that the Bulls get from the Wizards. If the Bulls were to get some point guard help this summer, it wouldn’t be the worst source to get it out of signing the impending restricted free agent Winston.

Out of the gates, Winston signed a two-way contract with the Wizards.

While it’s hard to see the Bulls pass up on re-signing someone like the rookie former Kansas Jayhawks star point guard Devon Dotson for pursuing a guard like Winston, this could be an interesting addition in one of the two-way contract slots. The possibility does exist that the Bulls let go of point guard Ryan Arcidiacono in favor of moving Dotson into that third unit role.

If that is to come to fruition, then the Bulls would be able to fill the two-way contract slot that Dotson previously occupied with Winston.

In 22 games played during his rookie season with the Wizards, Winston averaged 1.9 points per game, 0.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.1 steals, and no blocks. And he shot 42.4 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.
