Former Gators for the Chicago Bulls to acquire this summer: Chris Chiozza

If the Bulls have some movement in the players that they have in two-way contract slots this offseason, then a potential target for them could be the former Brooklyn Nets 25-year-old point guard Chris Chiozza. The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound former Gator and undrafted free agent signing has contributed to various degrees in regular season game action for three different teams in the past three seasons.

The most recent team that Chiozza played for was the Nets this season. He averaged 4.0 points per game, 1.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And Chiozza shot 35.2 percent from the field, 31.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. But throughout his career to date, Chiozza has shot around 38 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.

The two current players that the Bulls have in their two-way contract slots are the former Kansas Jayhawks star point guard Devon Dotson and second-year shooting guard/wing Adam Mokoka. It does feel like there’s good reason for the Bulls to bring back the fellow former undrafted free agent signing Dotson for at least one more season. But Mokoka might be on his way out this summer.

Chiozza could provide a fresh face that has more game experience than both Dotson and Mokoka. While he is older than both of them, there are signs that he’s finding a role as a third unit guard that could be around for at least a few more years in the NBA.

Posting a career-best .063 win shares per 48 minutes and 12.9 player efficiency rating, maybe Chiozza is starting to find more traction moving forward in the NBA.
