A very notable prospect that could be high up on the board for the Chicago Bulls with their second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, former Illinois Fighting Illini junior point guard Ayo Dosunmu, is coming to the forefront this week. The 6-foot-5 and 200-pound former four-star recruit and Chicago, IL, native Dosunmu will reportedly interview with the Bulls this week.

Dosunmu will apparently interview with the Bulls organization on June 25, which comes in the back half of the week of the 2021 NBA Draft Combine. As one of the more followed prospects during combine week in Chicago, Dosunmu has a chance to boost his draft stock.

The Bulls need some help to bolster the depth in the backcourt rotation, and drafting someone like Dosunmu could get part of that task accomplished. Dosunmu obviously wouldn’t solve the Bulls point guard woes in the starting unit, but he could be a solid second or third unit guard early in his career with this squad.

After his interview with the Bulls, Dosunmu will have reportedly discussed with roughly half of the NBA teams. We don’t know yet if Dosunmu has worked out for the Bulls, or if that is on the books in the next week or so. But an interview is a good first step.

The Bulls would also likely be getting an immediate fan favorite if they were to draft the former Fighting Illini star and hometown kid Dosunmu. He was really good for head coach Brad Underwood and the Fighting Illi last season.

In 28 games played for Illinois last season, the consensus All-American Dosunmu averaged 20.1 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And he shot 48.8 percent from the field, 39.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.

It would be a solid pick for the Bulls to get Dosunmu if he is still available in the 38th spot in the second round of the 2021 draft. But we’ll just have to wait and see how this process plays out, and if any other prospect falls down the board that far.

Since the Bulls missed out on the top four of the lottery this year, the only pick they will hold in the 2021 NBA Draft is 38th overall in the second round. The 2021 NBA Draft is set to take place on the night of July 29.
