Chicago Bulls Draft Big Board – No. 3: Evan Mobley

Number three and number four on the board were close but ultimately Evan Mobley won out. He is a big man that has extreme upside on both ends of the floor but needs to put on some muscle before he can truly start being relied on for a team looking to win games.

Still, he’d be more than capable of getting decent run alongside Nikola Vucevic early on and could play either a bench role or start next to Vooch for Billy Donovan’s club. The Bulls would need to have trusted depth behind him, whether that be in the form of Thaddeus Young or someone else brought in.

Mobley would be a versatile weapon for Billy Donovan and his upside is through the roof. At USC last season the big man averaged 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Most impressive, and helpful to the Bulls right now, is his shot-blocking ability.

Across 33 college games, he averaged 2.9 blocks per game. Rim protection is one of the Bulls primary needs this offseason and getting it from a rookie with elite upside would be a gift.

Standing seven feet tall, Mobley is a special athlete with a long wingspan that helps him at the rim. His quick feet for a player his size offer potential for him to be one of the rare bigs in the NBA that can guard nearly any position and do it well.

Chris Bosh, who Bulls fans know very well, is being thrown around as an NBA comparison for him. While that is high praise no doubt, Mobley offers special upside on defense that Bosh wasn’t able to provide in his playing days. His offensive game it is not difficult to see the parallel to Bosh in if he’s able to continue developing.
