Chicago Bulls: 3 threats to sign Daniel Theis in free agency
Chicago Bulls biggest threats to sign Daniel Theis: Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets have ready been linked to Theis ahead of this offseason and it makes complete sense. They are a rising team in the league with LaMelo Ball leading the charge and they should be doing everything they can to surround him with the right pieces as quickly as possible.
They have a solid group across the board until you get to the center position. They have a glaring hole at the five and will be focused on filling that hole however they can this offseason.
Theis should be pretty high up on their list of targets. Not only does he bring another veteran presence to the group but he also fits very well with what they are building. His energy and style of play would perfectly compliment the things the Hornets do behind Ball.
He contests shots at the rim and can do a solid enough job on switches defensively. He won’t be a game-changer on that end for them but can certainly bring value.
Then there is the offensive end where it is an easy pitch. Theis has shown he can be a solid perimeter shooter for stretches of games in his career, consistency is the problem. The open looks players like Ball, Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward would help him get should help that.
Finally, the Hornets are already rapidly rising up the rankings of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA. That is inevitable when you add someone like LaMelo. Theis is the kind of guy that brings energy and excitement to the floor and would make the Hornets that much more of an enjoyable watch.
The Hornets have options to open up cap space though it might require them sacrificing talented players. For example, renouncing the rights to restricted free agents Malik Monk and Devonte’ Graham would move them over $20 million in the right direction.
