Why Kemba Walker is a good fit with the Chicago Bulls: Giving Zach LaVine a chance to contend right away

A focal point for the way that Karnisovas and Eversley construct the roster for the Bulls this offseason will be how they fit some pieces around the star duo of shooting guard Zach LaVine and center Nikola Vucevic. The Bulls front office did do a nice job getting a true star running mate for LaVine at the deadline in the former Magic big man and two-time All-Star Vooch.

Namely, putting the right pieces around LaVine will be key so that he is more inclined to take part in negotiations for an advantageous contract extension before next summer. LaVine has one more year left on his current contract. But he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. And if he didn’t want to return to the Bulls, he would be highly sought after by a number of other suitors.

LaVine still has yet to make the postseason in seven tries in his NBA career to date. It would be hard to imagine the Bulls missing out on the postseason again next season if they were to have a trio that included LaVine, Vooch, and Kemba. Not only that but Vooch and Kemba have some postseason experience that would be useful for LaVine to be around.

Between the three of them, there are seven All-Star selections and potentially more on the way in the near future. But Kemba and Vooch are both in their early 30s now, so the time could be running out on when they can win their first title. Potentially forming a big three in the Windy City could be good for LaVine first and foremost, but also for Kemba and Vooch.
