Why Kemba Walker is a good fit with the Chicago Bulls: Moving Coby White to appropriate role
While there might be pieces on the current Celtics roster that would wind up being more valuable and appealing to Bulls fans right away than Kemba, there might not be a better fit with the current positional needs in Chicago. The primary task for executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley this offseason is figuring out the point guard problem.
Names like Dennis Schroder of the Los Angeles Lakers and Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans keep getting tossed around. But neither of those potential point guard signings for the Bulls would make as big of a splash, or potentially as much of an immediate impact, as trading for Kemba from the Celtics.
Moreover, the main reason why the Bulls are trying to fill a void at the one in the starting unit in the first place is the fact that role couldn’t be filled by either Coby White or Tomas Satoransky. The second-year point guard White still looks to have a promising future with the Bulls, but that might be in more of a sixth man role.
White did prove this season that he is a better fit for some type of volume-scoring combo guard role as a sixth or seventh man moving forward. If he’s forced into a starting point guard role that he’s not ready for, it will continue to hold back his development. White showed some of his developing strengths last season, including running in transition, catch-and-shoot, and corner three-point shooting.
