Ryan Arcidiacono, PG
Something that was proved down the stretch this season in bits and pieces was the fact that the Bulls might be better off with the former undrafted free agent signing and rookie point guard Devon Dotson in this rotation than one other floor general in the mix. Former Villanova Wildcats point guard Ryan Arcidiacono isn’t having his best season with the Bulls.
And although Arch has one more year on his current contract, the Bulls do have a team option looming for him this offseason. With the future of Arch completely in their hands this offseason, the Bulls could determine what third unit point guard they’d like to have in their backcourt rotation heading into next season.
Arch just isn’t the type of point guard, that at least when he’s on the floor with LaVine, can effectively distribute the ball to someone as capable as the first-time All-Star shooting guard. In terms of the two-man combinations and net rating per 100 possessions, few LaVine teammates have a worse number of assists than Arch.
LaVine and Arch also just don’t mesh well when feeding each other at any point in time this season. LaVine shoots well under 40 percent from beyond the arc when getting passes from Arch. And it’s not much better the other way around.
In 43 games played this season, Arch averaged just 2.8 points per game, 1.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.2 steals, and no blocks. And he’s shot 39.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 65.0 percent from the free-throw line.
It just doesn’t feel like there is a spot in the rotation moving forward for Arch if Donovan and the front office really buy into the potential for Dotson in the second or third unit.
