Chicago Bulls matchup to watch: Patrick Williams vs Anthony Edwards
This one will hopefully be a major storyline in any games these two teams play for a long, long time. Anthony Edwards was the number one selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Bulls selected Patrick Williams at number four overall shortly after.
Both teams hope their respective rookies will be franchise cornerstones for years to come, and tonight we get to see Williams matchup with the top prospect in his draft class.
With Williams being a strong defender and that being his greatest strength early in his career, we can learn a lot from how he defends a fellow rookie who is thriving offensively as of late.
In his last ten games, Edwards is averaging 23.4 points on 45.4 percent field goal shooting. The recent stretch has brought his season-long scoring average up to 17.9 points per game. Will Williams be able to do his part in slowing down the NBA Rookie of the Year favorite?
That is what Bulls fans are hoping they see from their own promising rookie in this one. Williams has been solid offensively all season but where he is capable of making the greatest impact right now is on the defensive end.
It is just what the Chicago Bulls need, too. They have their offensive leaders and guys they’ll get big production from. They lack defense from both a team and individual player perspective.
One of the guys they need to be able to count on defensively is Williams. That is because he is one of the guys capable of meeting expectations on that end.
This will be a key matchup in tonight’s game and many more between the two teams for years to come.
