Chicago Bulls: Players selected after Chandler Hutchison in the 2018 NBA Draft

  • Anfernee Simons, 24th Overall
  • Robert Williams, 27th Overall
  • Devonte’ Graham, 34th Overall
  • Mitchell Robinson, 36th Overall
  • Gary Trent Jr., 37th Overall

As you progress later and later in the NBA Draft, there tends to become fewer and fewer misses, naturally. That’s the case here in comparison to Wendell Carter Jr., but that doesn’t mean there weren’t notable players passed on to get the Boise State wing.

While most of these players don’t jump off the screen to most fans, it’s worth wondering if the Bulls would have been far better off had they drafted any of the five listed. It starts with Simons, who was selected just two picks after Hutchison.

Simons has flashed as a high volume scorer in Portland the past few seasons despite usually being stuck in a role behind star guards Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. In his career, the IMG Academy product has shown glimpses of the scorer he already is and flashes into the scorer he could become.

His second season saw him average 8.3 points per game in 20.7 minutes.

Next up is Robert Williams, selected 27th overall by the Boston Celtics. Williams has proven to be a valuable role player in Boston and that is a step above what we have seen from Hutchison early in his career.

In just over 100 career games Williams has grabbed just under 5 rebounds per game and just above 5 points per game. This coming in just 14 minutes per contest.

Graham is having a very down season so far in Charlotte but that doesn’t wipe away what we saw from him last season. Additionally, his ‘down’ season for the Hornets this season is still much better than we have seen from the Bulls selection before him.

Closing out the list are Mitchell Robinson and Gary Trent Jr. Both players have had far more of an impact on their teams than Hutchison had on the Bulls. Robinson is a force on the defensive end that is still tapping into his immense potential. Trent Jr. is a sharpshooting specialist that is evolving his game already and will be a scorer for years to come.
