Chicago Bulls Point Guard Fits: Spencer Dinwiddie, Brooklyn Nets
Coming in at number four is Spencer Dinwiddie who is currently out for the season for the Brooklyn Nets. Dinwiddie has a player option for next season at $11,454,048. There is a solid chance he declines it to hit the open market and get more security than a one-year deal offers.
If that is the case, the Bulls should be closely monitoring his market once free agency kicks off. At the right price for a few years, he would be a very welcome addition to the core the Bulls are building. He doesn’t rank higher due to his injury and primarily because the fit isn’t perfect but is certainly workable.
Dinwiddie is a big point guard, listed at 6’5” by NBA.com. That size would make him playable alongside White in lineups. Although those two would lack on defense, as would the combination of LaVine and Dinwiddie, both would be very strong offensively.
Dinwiddie is a strong scoring guard that also brings the ability and willingness to distribute the ball. Last year in Brooklyn he averaged 20.6 points per game and 6.8 assists per game.
His playmaking is second to his scoring in terms of strengths, but he is a more natural and capable creator than White or LaVine. Those three would create a very strong backcourt rotation and would ensure the Bulls are among the best offensive teams in the league. While the move would likely push Tomas Satoransky out of the rotation it would be worth it.
Sato could be moved if Dinwiddie is brought in for help at other positions. He carries enough value to return the Bulls a useful player at the wing or a good backup center if Daniel Theis leaves the organization.
