Through six games played this season, the Chicago Bulls are not getting the most out of point guard Coby White as they should be in his second year.
Entering the 2020-21 regular season, the Chicago Bulls and first-year head coach Billy Donovan looked to have a lot of excitement building around the potential of second-year point guard Coby White. As one of the most notable pieces of this young core for the Bulls in the fourth year of the rebuild, White was expected to parlay the momentum he built up down the stretch last season to the start of his sophomore campaign in the NBA.
White was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month back in February 2020. And his rookie campaign ended very much on a high note. But it also ended prematurely in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. He helped the Bulls finish up with a record of 22-43 during the shortened 2019-20 regular season, under the direction of former head coach Jim Boylen, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
However, White and the Bulls aren’t off to the best start during this regular season. They boast a record of 2-4 through the first six games of the regular season, with their latest resulting in a convincing loss on the road at the hands of their divisional foe Milwaukee Bucks back on Jan. 1, by the final score of 126-96.
The Bulls have now allowed at least 124 points scored on them in five of six games this season. And their lone two wins on the season came in consecutive games on the road over the Washington Wizards back on Dec. 29 and 31.
One key to success moving forward for Donovan and the Bulls will be getting White’s play on the right track. Here’s a deeper look into three reasons why his play through six games this season is concerning.
