1) Chicago Bulls free agent targets to replace Kris Dunn: Bryn Forbes

The most potent replacement that the Bulls could find on the free agent market this offseason for a value price tag for Dunn is the San Antonio Spurs 6-foot-2 and 205 pound guard Bryn Forbes. The 27-year-old Lansing, MI, native and former Michigan State product will be entering the free agent market potentially to leave San Antonio for the first time in his NBA career.

Forbes has played in four seasons now under legendary head coach Gregg Popovich with the Spurs. And he played in 63 games during the 2019-20 season with the Spurs (all of one of which he started in). He averaged 11.2 points per game, 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.5 steals. Forbes shot 41.7 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Usually a solid on and off-ball defender, Forbes did see a dip in his metrics on that end of the floor this season. He posted a career-worst 118 defensive rating and -2.1 defensive box plus/minus rating. But he’s still a potent defender that might just need a change of scenery. He would also be a huge offensive upgrade over what Dunn brings to the table in terms of shooting ability and managing turnovers.

During the 2018-19 season, Forbes posted a career-high 11.8 points per game, 42.6 three-point field goal shooting percentage, and 45.6 field goal percentage. He did that while essentially maintaining either a net neutral or net positive presence on the defensive end of the floor. That’s the version of Forbes that the Bulls would be trying to get in the mix.

Forbes will hit the unrestricted free agent market this offseason after he signed a two-year contract extension with the Spurs during the summer of 2018.
