Chicago Bulls: 3 reasons to trade for Ben Simmons
1. Where else is this rebuild going?
This all traces back to one major point. It’s hard to know where the Bulls are going when the front office seemingly hasn’t made any decisions yet as to where this rebuild is going heading into its fourth year. The NBA Draft Lottery will be a good place to start to figure out where the Bulls can go from here, and formulate a plan for the looming free agent cycle.
But there is still no clear answer as to where this rebuild is going since there’s no guarantee they get a star, or even a quality starter, in this year’s draft. Outside of maybe someone like former Georgia Bulldogs shooting guard Anthony Edwards or the potent 6-foot-7 point guard LaMelo Ball, no one sticks out with real star promise in this draft class.
Moreover, a healthy Simmons would immediately provide a franchise cornerstone to build around and really rejuvenate this rebuild. It could also put some pressure on the ownership and management to finally rid of current Bulls head coach Jim Boylen. All of these would be positive moves for the Bulls rebuild over the long haul.
It’s just just landing Simmons himself that would be a good move for the Bulls, if they could pull it off for the right return, it’s getting a true star to the Windy City to finally let them move up in the pecking order in the East. Also, landing Simmons would give them a still young and developing player that can improve with them in the long-term.
