Chicago Bulls: Grading the 2019 offseason moves
Daniel Gafford (38th Overall)
The fact that the Bulls were able to snag Daniel Gafford in the second round is absolutely absurd. In my 2019 Draft Class Prospect Rankings, I marked Gafford as a top-twenty-five prospect. His ability to play above the rim, rebound, and protect the paint are things that every NBA team still needs, despite the way the NBA is moving in the modern day.
Drawing comparisons to Clint Capela, Gafford could find a nice fit off the bench playing the pick-and-roll with Denzel Valentine.
Gafford will need to improve his range as a scorer in the NBA, but his ceiling certainly shows that he could. As a highly-recruited high school project, it is always nice to be able to acquire a high-ceiling guy with a second-round pick, as these players normally do not remain in the league for too long.
Gafford will probably not find too much playing time to start the year, but all signs point to him taking Cristiano Felicio’s spot somewhere around the midpoint of the season. Gafford appears to be the backup center of the future in Chicago and could have a Mitchell Robinson-type rookie year.
