Chicago Bulls Free Agency: 4 biggest 2019 offseason whiffs
There was a lot of discussion surrounding the potential pursuit of former Brooklyn Nets big man Ed Davis by the Chicago Bulls this summer. Davis was a solid contributor off the bench for the Nets last season, and he didn’t command all that much money in free agency this summer.
One of the true bargain contracts of free agency was handed out to Davis by the Utah Jazz for two-years and $10 million total. Davis is probably worth around $7 or $8 million at least. But that’s why the Bulls could’ve made a mistake in letting Davis go from the East to the Western Conference to land with the upstart Jazz.
Davis showed an incredible amount of durability with the young Nets last season, playing in 81 of 82 games during the regular season. He posted a player efficiency rating better than 17 in the process. Davis registered one of the best rebounding percentages of all big men in the NBA last year too, above 25 percent.
The only problem if Davis were to land with the Bulls is the possible crowding of the frontcourt rotation under Boylen. The Bulls drafted former Arkansas Razorbacks big man Daniel Gafford and added Kornet and Young to the frontcourt rotation. Davis might make that too crowded and force away the signings of either Kornet or Young.
