Fred Hoiberg is currently in his third season coaching the Chicago Bulls. Should he be part of the Bulls future plans?

The Chicago Bulls are currently rebuilding. The front office is evaulating the players, but they are also evaluating the coaching staff.

The Chicago Bulls signed Fred Hoiberg to a five year deal worth $25 million before the 2015/16 season. Before the Bulls, Fred Hoiberg coached at Iowa State. The hope was that his pro style offense will translate to the NBA.

In his first season coaching the Chicago Bulls, the team went 42-40 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2007 season. It wasn’t a good start for Fred.

After the season Bulls GM Gar Forman said that the team wanted to get younger and more athletic because that’s what fits Fred’s system, but the Bulls did the opposite of that. Bulls signed Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo during free agency. Wade was 35 years old when the Bulls signed him and Rondo was 30 years old. Bulls got older and less athletic.

The Bulls made the playoffs in Fred Hoiberg’s second season, but there was a lot of drama during the season. Who can forget the post that Rajon Rondo posted on Instagram?

Rondo called out Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade for the way they talked about the young players after a loss.

Despite all the drama during Hoiberg’s second season, the team bounced back and made the playoffs. Bulls played the Celtics in the first round and it looked like they were going to sweep them. The Bulls won the first two games on the road, but unfortunately Rondo got hurt, and the series flipped. Bulls got eliminated by the Celtics.

We are now in Hoiberg’s third season coaching the Bulls. Before the season started the Bulls decided that they were going to rebuild. For years the organization was stuck in the middle and were always mediocre.

Chicago Bulls traded their franchise player

On draft night the Chicago Bulls traded Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In return the Bulls got Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and the seventh overall pick which the Bulls used that pick to draft Lauri Markkanen.

Before the first regular season game the Bulls made some headlines, as an altercation broke out between Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic during practice. Portis was suspended for eight games, while Niko was forced to miss 23 games because he suffered a concussion and maxillary fractures.

You knew this season was going to be rough. You knew that this team was going to be bad. The front office is doing everything they can to make sure the Bulls get a top five pick in the 2018 draft. The team has lost so many games this season.

Fred Hoiberg has two more years left on his contract. In his first two seasons coaching the Bulls, Fred didn’t get a lot of respect from the players, and the fans. The team that the Bulls have right now is what Fred Hoiberg wanted to have in year one.

Despite the team losing so many games, this young Bulls team continues to compete every single night, and that’s all what you can ask for. Every night you give it your all, and that’s what this team has done. Fred Hoiberg deserves a lot of credit for the way this team has played this season. The players haven’t given up on him.

Does Fred Hoiberg deserve a contract extension?

I know some people might think that this is a crazy question, but it’s really not. Hoiberg has two years left on his deal. Sooner or later the Bulls are going to have to make a decision on Fred Hoiberg. Right now making a decision on Fred is premature. He deserves a lot of praise for the way he has coached this season. It should be interesting to see what the organization is going to do with Fred Hoiberg.
