Jerian Grant

Grant is in a really bizarre situation, which isn’t all that unusual for point guards in the Bulls organization.

More from Bulls News

He’s quickly emerging as a third option at both point and shooting guard. He probably works better at the two and got his chance to work at that spot against the Bucks. Again, I said third option. The Bulls figure to start Rondo. As the shooting guard spot you’ve got Wade and Denzel Valentine.

It can work and has to work, but how? Grant has a lot to prove over the next two games if he wants to establish himself in the rotation during the regular season. In this game, it looked like Grant understands that there is a lot riding on his performances over the next couple of games.

He was making baseline drives, hitting teammates in the hands with bullet passes. Grant was attacking the rim, drawing contact and getting to the free throw line. He attacked his defender, sucking defenders into the lane and then kicking out to open teammates for corner 3-point attempts.

When it was all said and done, Grant finished with 13 points and seven assists in 28 minutes. That’s a solid line and encouraging sign from the young guard. It will be important that he capitalize on this performance and turn this solid outing into a strong finish to the preseason, especially if Michael Carter-Williams comes to town.
