But, if he shows up this season and plays well under new coach Tom Thibodeau in Minnesota, he might help Minnesota make a run at the playoffs. There is the thought of Rubio sitting behind new lottery pick Kris Dunn, a tall and long point guard who is a known defensive hound, and can shoot from the outside.
Bulls general manager Gar Forman and Fred Hoiberg may rescue Rubio and pair him with fellow Spanish National Team member Nikola Mirotic and turn the pace-and-space system into magic. If Steve Nash can blossom later in his career and carry a team on his shoulders, Rubio might do the same for the Bulls.
Fred Hoiberg was among the Timberwolves front office that picked Ricky Rubio and he may sync real well with a team of shooters that includes Mirotic. Rubio’s current contract may be too high for the Bulls to grab at him, but if Forman can see the fit would work well, Rubio could be a better fit than Rondo.
