People from all over the planet read this blog so one thing needs to be established right now – the weather in the northern Midwest during January is crazy at a Star Wars level and when the sun disappears, it gets straight-up Hoth-like. In lieu of cutting open animals that we ride with laser swords that we don’t have, people in the upper Midwest elect to do the smart thing – stay inside.

Windy City only has seven games in January. Ideally, that number would be between 30 and 40 so that there was always something entertaining to watch on your Apple TV, laptop, smart phone or any other such device. Seven games. It’s pretty bleak, just like the weather.

Really, the best game in January is going to be any road game. Home games are fine, but no one wants to fire up the car, let it warm up, then have to drive through the oppressive cold to catch a little basketball and then emerge to sheer darkness at a time that in summer would have been called a “sunny evening.” Stay home. Watch the games, but definitely stay home. The Maine Red Claws are a great team to watch. They have signed Boston Celtics second-round pick Abdel Nader, a player who could be on the rise after impressing in the Summer League.

Again, we are talking about January here. This game allows you be entertained and engaged with sports, dragging your mind away from the numbing cold of reality. Best part is that it syncs up nearly perfectly with the Chicago schedule. Unlike the November game we highlighted there will be some crossover between games, the NBA side gets it going at 5 PM EST while the D-League side tips off at 7 PM EST.

This is not a problem for humans in the winter. The overlap allows you to transition effortlessly from focusing on one Bulls team to another, never once having to go outside and shovel or dig out the car of a reckless relative that tried to drive to Boston Market for a dried-out chicken.
