11 assists.

A win in overtime over the defending NBA champions.

Not a bad start to Derrick Rose’s playoff career, eh?

Rose tied Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s NBA record for the most points in a playoff debut (36) and led the Bulls to an improbable 105-103 victory in overtime over the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of their legen — wait for it — dary series in the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

“He doesn’t need it [playoff experience],” Bulls guard Ben Gordon said after Rose shocked the city of Boston in Game 1.

“He’s poised beyond his years. He already carries himself like a veteran out there. He had a phenomenal game tonight, to say the least.”

The Bulls would lose the series, but the hungry bunch pushed the Celtics to seven games in the opening round of the postseason and you could very well make the case that there hasn’t been a playoff series better than this one.

On this day in Boston, there was nobody better than Derrick Rose.
