Mean Streets Express: A Retrospective Of Derrick Rose, Car Enthusiast

We’re used to seeing Derrick Rose speeding past defenders and driving to the net, but catching a glimpse of him behind the wheel of one of his luxury cars is another story.

Derrick Rose has regularly been spied navigating the streets of Chicago in his mean machines ever since he first entered the NBA in 2008. His first big purchase after signing his rookie contract, a Maserati Gran Turismo (pictured below out front of Englewood District eatery, Rainbow Submarine) set him back around the $110K mark. Back in 2009, Rose harboured desires to eventually upgrade to his dream car (more on this later).

This time last week, Rose was spotted at a Gold Coast dealership perusing the showroom offerings — one of which was the classic Lamborghini Countach. Video surfaced shortly after Rose tested out a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster (it can be yours if you have a lazy $400K lying around) and a 2016 Bentley Continental GT Speed (half the price of the Lambo).

Sporting a hairstyle very similar to his team mate Jimmy Butler, Rose at first seems a little hesitant to take the keys and even questions whether he’ll fit his 6’3″ frame behind the wheel of the Lamborghini. After gently easing his way into car and then the traffic, Rose soon finds his comfort zone, accelerating the Italian-made sports car that bears the same animal in its logo as the team he plays for, off into the distance.

Whether Derrick Rose preferred the Aventador or the Continental GT is simply a mystery. Only time will tell. He’s certainly no stranger to the Bentley brand, having owned a Mulsanne that he purchased in 2011 after signing his contract extension with the Bulls. The same car that was later involved in a traffic accident on the Kennedy Expressway in 2012.

During the winter months, the hometown star would reportedly opt for the more practical Ford F-450 truck he owned. If that’s still in his possession and in use, feel free to let me know, because I failed to find any other trace of it on the internet.

As far as we know, the lightning-quick point guard still has the pink slip for the car he’s been driving in recent years, including his “ultimate car”: The 2013 Rolls-Royce Wraith. In fact, he may have upgraded from a Phantom at some point if we can actually believe the internet. (Also, shoutout to Big Sean and Wale.)

We’re certain Rose had no problem affording the $350-400K price tags. That $185 million Adidas deal he signed sure came in handy, but some things you just can’t put a price tag on.
