5. Trade the Pick For a Veteran

Butler is a free agent, and Rose, Gibson, Gasol and Mirotic will all be off the books two years from now. If the Bulls want to make a push with their current core, trading for a veteran may be a better option than drafting a rookie.
With all the free agents available this summer, it doesn’t make sense to trade the pick for a veteran right now. There really aren’t a lot of good players signed with a team that are on the trading block. Even if they traded for a player they would still have to pay him. And it’s not like the Bulls have a lot to give away right now that teams want.
Chicago’s best bet would be to get a player in the draft and sign a couple of free agents come July.
Sounds nice in theory, but I guess we’ll see what really happens on Thursday night.
