Chicago Bulls: Sleepers at No. 22
Center: Guillermo Hernangomez, Spain
Sure, I could’ve mentioned Washington’s Robert Upshaw in this position, but hey, I’ve already done that!
First thing’s first: Who is Guillermo Hernangomez?
“Willy” Hernangomez is a 6’11” big man from Madrid, who might not fit Fred Hoiberg’s whole criteria in terms of what he wants his bigs to do, but Hernangomez is imposing offensively already as a 21-year-old.
Note: Hernangomez played this last season with top-10 prospect Kristaps Porzingis for Baloncesto Sevilla of the ACB.
Similar to McCullough being a project, Hernangomez is just 21, so he’s a young kid with limited experience as well. Also, noted by the guys at DraftExpress, Hernangomez is indeed a free agent, so the immediate jump to the NBA is there for him, but there’s a possibility of him being a “stash option” if he keeps his name in the draft.
He’s an interesting prospect for the fact that most of his points come off cuts and rolls in Sevilla’s pick-and-roll heavy attack offensively.
Rose and a younger Pau Gasol-type (minus the jump shot) in the pick-and-roll? Sounds kind of fun.
