2005: No first-round pick, 2006: The Aldridge/Thomas swap
After not having a first-round selection in the 2005 NBA Draft, the Bulls traded 16th overall pick Rodney Carney to Philadelphia for Thabo Sefolosha in 2006, and had quite a slip-up with the second overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.

Andrea Bargnani was the top overall pick for Toronto during the 2006 draft, while Texas forward LaMarcus Aldridge was selected No. 2 by the Bulls.
The Bulls then traded Aldridge’s rights to Portland, for the rights to Tyrus Thomas.
The result of that trade?
Aldridge has made the last four straight All-Star Games for the Western Conference and has made three All-NBA teams in his nine NBA seasons. Thomas was traded from Chicago in 2010 after drafting Taj Gibson in the 2009 NBA Draft, and has since been waived by Charlotte after signing a ludicrous four-year contract and found himself in the NBA Development League with the Iowa Energy.
Whoops.
