2014: Dougie McNoBuckets (so far…)

As a result of the Tyrus Thomas trade with Charlotte in 2010, the Bulls acquired a conditional first-round pick from the Bobcats (yes, they were still the Bobcats then) for 2012. The pick was no longer protected, due to the ‘Cats making the postseason in 2014, so the 16th pick belonged to Chicago.

The Bulls also had the 19th overall pick on draft night in 2014, but both picks were later sent to Denver, in exchange for Doug McDermott, one of the best college hoop scorers in history.

McDermott was selected 11th overall by Denver, while the Bulls took Bosnian forward Jusuf Nurkic at No. 16 and Michigan State guard Gary Harris with their own pick at No. 19.

Thanks in part to Tom Thibodeau‘s stubborn ways and a knee injury that caused him to miss 25 games in the winter months, McDermott hardly saw the floor in the 2014-15 season, playing in just 36 games.

Nobody was probably happier to see Hoiberg being brought into Chicago more than Ames, Iowa native Doug McDermott.
