Uncertain futures are ahead for these 2025-26 Chicago Bulls guards

Anfernee Simons and Collin Sexton are two guards from the 2025-26 roster who may have an uncertain future in the Windy City.

Both are unrestricted free agents this offseason. The Bulls also have the upcoming draft and multiple young players to think about. There is even the potential for a reunion with a beloved former guard, albeit a far-fetched one.

This puts Simons and Sexton's future with the Bulls in doubt for the 2026-27 season.

The upcoming draft

With the No. 4 overall pick, the Bulls have the opportunity to add a high-level scorer to the 2026-27 roster. The Bulls will need to have offensive opportunities for the rookie.

Throughout the entire 2025-26 regular season, Simons averaged 14.3 points per game. He shot 44% from the field. As for Sexton, he averaged 15.4 points per game on 48.5% shooting from the field.

If the Bulls keep both Simons and Sexton on the roster — both capable scorers — it will likely limit the opportunities for their draft selection.

Given that they also pick at No. 15, they can add a second promising young talent to the franchise. This would require additional opportunities on the offensive end if the player is viewed as a key piece of their offensive attack.

The Bulls also have young players in Matas Buzelis, Josh Giddey and Noa Essengue to consider.

Buzelis and Giddey have the opportunity to continue to grow their games. Essengue will need reps after playing in only two games and having season-ending shoulder surgery.

Per reports, the Bulls have also worked out multiple guards. If they add a talented guard via the draft, it makes Simons or Sexton — or both — moving on more likely due to the positional similarities.

The potential reunion with Ayo Dosunmu

CHSN Chicago Bulls analyst Kendall Gill said he knows Dosunmu “would be open tocoming back to Chicago, based on their conversations this summer. Gill shared this on the Mully & Haugh Show on 104.3 The Score.

In the entire regular season, Dosunmu averaged 14.8 points per game. He shot 51.7% from the field and 43.9% from beyond the arc.

Not only is Dosunmu a reliable scorer, but he also recorded a 43-point outing for Minnesota in the postseason. He showed that he can step up in big ways in big moments on offense. He is also a valuable asset on the defensive end.

If the Bulls can swing a reunion, Dosunmu should be a guard they prioritize for the 2026-27 roster.

Free agency plays a role

Sexton and Simons are both unrestricted free agents this offseason. The Bulls don’t have to negotiate trades to move them off the roster. This makes it easier to prioritize the young players and a potential Dosunmu reunion.

The Bulls have the reasons and circumstance to move on from these two guards this offseason; it is just a question of whether they do. More importantly, if they do, will they move on from both or just one?

If the Bulls want to prioritize their young talent, it may be best to allow these two to sign elsewhere.
